Napa County Landmarks Expands Annual Scholarship Program to Support Next Generation Leaders

Napa County Landmarks (Landmarks) announces the launch of its 2025 Student Scholarship Program, offering twelve $1,000 scholarships to students who are passionate about discovering and sharing the stories of our region’s landmarks. With a simplified, fully online application process and an expanded eligibility pool, this year’s program reduces barriers to participation and ensures a smooth and accessible process for all interested students.

“This scholarship is focused on inspiring people to connect with the landmarks that shape their community,” said Christine Madrid French, Executive Director of Landmarks. “By making it easier to apply, we want to foster a pipeline for the next generation of community leaders, historians, and storytellers who will carry these traditions forward.”

Students are encouraged to choose a local landmark that speaks to them—a historic building, park, bridge, or neighborhood—and share why it matters. They can submit their stories in a format that best suits their strengths, such as a written essay, creative video, or a narrated slideshow.

Since its inception in 2019, the Student Scholarship Program has awarded $44,000 to 44 young scholars, fostering an appreciation for the cultural significance of Napa’s treasured sites. Now, the program aims to reach more students, including Napa County high school seniors, as well as enrolled students at Napa Valley College, Napa Valley Independent Studies, and Napa Valley Adult Education transitioning to a university program.

The deadline to apply is March 17, 2025. Complete details, scoring criteria, and the application form can be found on the Napa County Landmarks Scholarships page at napacountylandmarks.org/events-tours/scholarships.
With the generous support of our community, Napa County Landmarks continues to invest in the future of historic preservation by encouraging young scholars to engage with the rich history of Napa Valley. Schools, educators, and community leaders are invited to share this opportunity widely and support students in exploring the past to help shape the future.
